Is there anything more dreadful than the word unemployment? We all want to avoid it, but are we prepared when it knocks on our door, or worst, it camps out on our front lawn for months and months?
It is like a crazy relative, here for a long stay. I am talking about unemployment rates. Surely, most of us are used to hearing about it all now, but it doesn’t make it any easier. Hearing the constant media quips about how high it is rising, only frustrates those that have been seeking a job for the past weeks or months, and it simply frightens the life out of the other half who still have a job, but for how long… But, then I guess of course, there are some who are oblivious… but I hardly think it is that many not taking the numbers seriously.
The country’s poor economic state is impacting so many industries and for all the recently laid off American citizens, many are rethinking their career choices, and playing a game of switcheroo just to find a paying job in this marketplace.
The point is, can you really afford to wait it out until the economy supports your industry again? For those with responsibilities, I don’t think so. Even if you do not budge and change careers for the sake of getting important interviews, are you ready with a bright and shiny new resume in hand? No? Tsk, tsk!
Why a new resume you ask? Well first obvious, let me point out the big pink elephant in the room- your old resume, that is apparently not getting you a job… or interviews even. If it was, you would not be reading this article. Is your resume capable to allow hiring manager and human resource professional see you as a valuable asset to their company team? Perhaps you should rethink your objectives, past history and create a new resume that glows with everything an employer is looking for.
Practical experience is a huge advantage, and transferable skills are a must to point out- especially if you are considering jumping ships to a new industry. Regardless, be prepared with a resume that shines and highlights everything important in today’s economy.
